Why is a tonal analysis better than seasonal?
Let me start by saying that the tonal color system ROCKS! But what is it?
When I say color analysis, most people think of a seasonal analysis. This system groups colors and palettes by season, so Winter and Summer, Fall and Spring. But I don’t do a seasonal analysis…and here is why!
The company I trained with, Colour Me Beautiful, has been around since 1983 and are still the recognized leaders in color, image, and styling industry! When they originally started color consulting, they followed the seasonal analysis…but found that it kept pigeon-holing people into the palette that didn’t suit them best. Thus, they adopted the tonal system of color analysis which is still used to this day! I love the tonal system and it WORKS! I have had a few clients who had a seasonal consult who felt pigeon-holed in their seasonal analysis…and they were!
So why is the tonal system better than a seasonal system?
Here are a couple reasons why the tonal system is the best color analysis system!
1) It’s a flexible system! One of the main tenets of a tonal system is looking at how to wear color, not just what colors to wear. I will never tell you to not wear a certain color because with a tonal system we can take a look at how to wear any color well to compliment and highlight you!
2) It takes into account hair! When we talk about all the colors, we are mainly looking at what is near our face…like our hair! Our hair is a huge part of our coloring and personality and deserves to be taken into account! Someone who naturally has red hair, then dyes it black, is going to be able to wear different shades of colors better with a change in hair color.
3) It has more, unique options! In a seasonal analysis, there are 4 dominate palettes that get broken up into 12 specific palettes. In a tonal analysis, there are 6 dominate palettes that get broken up into 24 possible options! That means more choices, more flair, and more individuality for my clients!
4) It allows for change. Even beyond a hair color change, our skin naturally changes as we age and the tonal analysis accounts for that. It makes that change to our coloring easy to understand and not keep us in a palette that doesn’t change and with us!
5) It follows deep, and proven science. The entire tonal method is based on a scientist named Albert Munsell. Our artists out there might recognize the “Munsell Method” of color… and that is exactly what the tonal system is based on. This method looks at dominant characteristics of color and in our analysis, I take that understanding and determine what colors look best on you! This science WORKS…plus it is the color science used in hair dyes as well!
When you come into a consult, we talk a bit more about the tonal analysis, why I use it wholeheartedly, and how it works for EVERYONE!
