Swimsuits?? Where do I even start??
All swimsuits from J. Crew!
Swimsuits are a tricky business…
And I know it first hand. The hunt for the perfect, flattering, summer fun swimsuit can be so frustrating. Every person is unique and have different desires for a swimsuit…but it can be hard to find that perfect one that makes you feel confident and ready for the beach. I have personally always dreaded the swimsuit hunt, but now… knowing my colors and my style and body shape, I have a better idea of what to look for! And I can’t wait to share some tips with you!
Tip #1-Color!!
Shocking I know. I…Alex Cook…bring up how wearing the right color can bring confidence to even swimsuits?? Yea that tracks…and it works! Understanding what shades of colors look best on us help us to make informed decisions and guide us as we navigate shopping. It’s that little boost of “I know that I am rocking this because this color is making me glow!” So what are some colors that would look great for each palette?
CLEAR: Let’s see those bold summer colors! Bright pinks, reds, and blues! And don’t forget the power of contrast in patterns like stripes!
SOFT: I love some of the softer, tonal floral patterns I have been seeing in swimsuits. My dream color for all soft swimsuits is Jade!
DEEP: I have recently seen some plum or deep navy swimsuits that I am obsessed with for our deeps! Deeps also have a a super fun lime color that would look great in swimsuits as well!
LIGHT: The toile patterns literally scream for a light to rock! But also the delicate and light pinks or sages would be so complimentary!
COOL: I love cools in power pinks and purples and would love to see a Cool sport a periwinkle swimsuit this summer!
WARM: All the soft browns and sages please! There is also a lovely aqua color in their palette that would be perfect for summer fun!
Tip #2- Neckline!
As we can see in the pictures above, there are many different styles of neckline in swimsuits. You’ve got the deep plunge, scoop, high-neck, boat neck, halter, off the shoulder, one shoulder, square neck, regular v-neck and so much more! It can get overwhelming if we don’t know what to look for. Choosing the best swimsuit neckline comes down mostly to our neck length. So let’s break it down a bit.
(Here is a freebie…no matter what a simple v-neck is going to be flattering on EVERYBODY!)
The main rules about neckline are as follows:
Shorter neck: the scoop, boat, and square, and off the shoulder is going to be very flattering!
Longer neck: the high neck, halter, scoop neck and one shoulder is going to be very flattering!
Tip #3- Waistline!
Knowing about where our waistline sits, and how to accentuate while feeling good with our tummy is probably the trickiest part of a swimsuit! But there are ways of making this work for you! That’s really my job description, making styles work for you and to make you feel confident!
Here is my main tip:
Watch where the detail is! If there is special detail in pattern or boning or embellishment, that is going to accentuate that part of the body!
And of course, when you come to any consultation, we will talk about how to incorporate your colors and style into your life…including swimsuits! If you are feeling lost, discouraged, or frustrated…let’s schedule a consultation and get your confidence back! Happy summer!!
